A Free Coloring Page for You!

Hello everyone! I have this week's free coloring page download all set for you today. This week I chose a different technique and went with a brush drawing rather than using a sharpie pen like I have used in my previous free downloads. I created this design using watered down Golden fluid acrylic paint in Carbon Black, and a size 1 round tip brush. I love Golden brand paints they never let me down. I found that watering the paint down gave virtually the same results as using a traditional ink.

I always like to try these pages out and color them before I post but the kids are home on break this week and I ran out of time. I am anxious to see how they will look in color hopefully I will get a chance to fill them in later. I also think that rather than using color, painting these in with a grayscale wash would be really neat so I may try that as well.

I am going to share both the grayscale version of this design as well as one in black and white. I think both can create a unique look so why not pass them along right? Aside from coloring the entire page this design would also work cut out and collaged in an art journal or mixed media painting. I hope you find something fun and creative to do with these!

Feel free to down load this design here.

And Download the black and white version here.

With the new year ahead I am hoping to have new downloads and fun inspiration to share. I hope you have a safe and blessed new year and happy coloring!

A Free Coloring Page for You With Extra Download!

Hello everyone here is this weeks free coloring page download for you! I went with a seasonal theme this time and drew up a poinsettia design. This week I wanted to experiment with a different coloring technique for this composition. After scanning my drawn image in the computer I very loosely water colored a sheet of cardstock to print the sheet on. Once it was printed I went back and added a few details of color with marker to highlight various aspects of the design. Since the design itself is rather busy I chose a minimal color pallet. I think it made for an interesting look and I am happy with the results.

I chose a simple white frame this time to show off the wild design.

This is the loose water color I made. I didn't spend very much time on it because I wanted my details to me in the final image not the background.

Here is your link to a free download of this week's page

Don't feel like coloring but like the design? This week you can download my colored image here.

Merry Christmas! And happy coloring!

Slowly, slowly in the studio

Little by little I have been creating a new Etsy Shop for Crooked Feather Studio to replace my old shop at Crooked Coop Farm. After working on my artwork for many years I feel I have developed a style and brand that I want to show off, and am ready to start new. My old shop had a lot of experiments with only some cohesiveness to it including upcycled crafts, wood signs, original paintings, wooden hearts and odds and ends. In my new shop you will now find my wood signs and original paintings. I intend to keep my new shop streamlined with focus rather than a place to experiment like I have done in the past. I don't want to rush this process so as of now you will only find a small amount listed, but as I go on I will be sure to update.

Here are a few examples of what you can find in my new Etsy Shop. Hope you like what you see and be sure to stop by often. I appreciate any likes, favorites, pins and shares you have :)

This is a whitefish I painted on a piece of recycled pallet wood and hung with an upcycled chain. I love painting nature and painting it on distressed wood allows me to play with color and texture. I frequently layer many bright colors beneath my final image to create depth in my piece.  You can find this listing here in my shop.

Here is another pallet piece I made again using acrylic and layering my colors. I first painted the bare wood black before covering it with white, distressing it and hand lettering the piece with black fluid acrylic. This sign can be found listed here.

I quoted and painted a favorite song of mine by Carole King, Beautiful. I want my daughter to remember these words like I do and remember what an inspiration Carole King is.This inspiring little number can be found here.

And last but not least another favorite of mine Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd. This one I painted for my boys giving them words to look up to. My hope is that all of my children lead a simple, beautiful life never afraid to show the world who they are.  I have this piece listed here.

Like I said it is a slow start but you've got to start somewhere right? I will keep my old shop up for a while yet and will now only offer my recycled journals and alphabet block photo holders. Any ready to ship orders from either shop can still arrive in time for Christmas if ordered by December 21. If you would like a custom order it will need to be placed by December 19th to arrive in time.

Thank you for stopping by today!

A Free Coloring Page for You!

Hi gang! Today I have to share with you a floral patterned coloring page that I have been working on. I am really enjoying creating these pages and I hope you are enjoying them as well. One thing I like about creating them is they challenge me to create something I wouldn't otherwise. I am usually more focused on color and texture when I create art so drawing these force me to look at line and design in a way that I sometimes ignore. I am hoping while practicing with these black and white illustrations I can grow and develop as an artist and tap into the world of line drawing. At the same time I want to use these drawings to practice design composition. I think it is important to keep practicing these fundamental art school basics to keep myself a well rounded artist.
